Logitech Z-5500 is a 5.1 digital sound system which is typically made for gamers since the cost price is very low and easily affordable for a surround speaker set with a high base subwoofer. A controller called the “Sound Touch” helps in controlling the systems settings like- input mode, audio effects and bass/treble levels.

Logitech Z-5500 is a THX certified speaker. It is a system that gives a home theatre effect for your PC. It delivers its efficiency through 500 watts of power with the help of a 10-inch subwoofer. Other supported audio formats includes; Dolby Digital, DTS and DTS 96/24. You even get a line-in port & a headphone port. Once the headphones are plugged in the mode switches to stereo immediately.

Logitech Z-5500 was successful in creating a scary environment with its satellite speakers when tested with games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2. These speakers performed well around 75dB though a bit lacking in mid-bass. It also gave good results with music even though it was excessively resonant with few tracks and that’s all you can expect at a price around 280$.

Good:

Made for gaming device but can be used for CD’s & DVD’s also.
Includes Dolby digital, DTS and DTS 96/24 & Pro Logic II.
Supports up to 6 inputs (Digital and Analog).
Good sound performance.
Full feature remote.

Bad:

As it has pounding speakers it can be highly irritating when volumes really high.
Sub woofer is excessively resonant.
As the display cannot be dimmed or monitored it can get disturbing when the system is with the lights off.

Bottom line:

Power base of 188, satellite power output 4 X 62 W + 69 W, 33 Hz – 20 kHz. This is without doubt a powerful system and very affordable even for the normal gamer. We really recommend it, specifically as a computer gaming system.
